From The Heart

Starting on Monday 11th February and running throughout the week, a range of ITV shows will explore and highlight the need for more organ donors, focus on the recipients of donor organs and how lives can be transformed.  They will ultimately show that everyone across the country has the opportunity to make a difference, giving a gift this Valentine Day’s that could potentially transform the lives of others. Daybreak and This Morning will support the campaign, featuring case studies and personal stories, as will ITV, STV and UTV Newsrooms across the UK, who be will be spotlighting on services and stories from their regions. Loose Women will also feature organ donation as one of their discussion topics during the week. ITV’s main national news programmes will be broadcasting stories throughout the week from Papworth Hospital, where in 1979 the UK’s first successful heart transplant took place.  They will interview families and clinical staff and give a picture of the numbers of people waiting for heart, heart and lung and lung transplants.  A Wales This Week special will be broadcast during the evening of Monday 11 February to viewers in Wales and will also cover the issue of opt out.
